Seal Beach is a small seaside community with two-thirds of its land occupied by the Naval Weapons Station. The major employer in Seal Beach is the Boeing Company, followed by Mag Tek, Siemens and Target. Classic longboard builders Harbour Surfboards have been in business in Seal Beach since 1959. Leisure World, a gated retirement community located in Seal Beach, is home to over 9,000 residents.
Seal Beach 100 years ago was known as Anaheim Landing because it served at Anaheim’s gateway to the ocean. Beaches, roller coasters and docks for boats made it a fun seaside community. To this day it boasts the second longest wooden pier in California. Surfers flock to Seal Beach and Stingray Bay (or Ray Bay as the surfers call it) just as stingrays flock to the area, drawn to the warm water generated by upstream power plants.
